A travel journal is not just a diary. It's a place where you can store moods, impressions and small details that make your trip special. Here are 10 pages you can create in your travel journal, either during your trip or when you get home.
1. Packing list and preparation
A page for all the practicalities. What do you need to remember? What are you looking forward to? Make a list and use stickers or drawings if you like, to make it a bit more fun.
2. Map of the journey
Draw a route, mark crosses on a map, or paste in a small printout. You can write dates and places along the way. You can either print the map from the internet or use the maps that are often available at hotels, airports, or train stations.
3. Diary pages
A classic. Write a couple of lines about the day. What you did, saw, ate, or felt. It doesn't have to be long. But a brief overview of your experiences, so you have something to look back on.
4. Food and drink
What have you tasted that was new or delicious? You can write restaurant names, cut out a receipt, or draw your favourite dish.
5. Quotes and conversations
Something someone said that you won't forget. It could be funny, touching or strange. Or quotes you saw on signs or elsewhere along the way.
6. Postcards or pictures
Stick in pictures, tickets or postcards. You can also make a collage with colours and moods.
7. Tickets and scraps of paper
Train tickets, brochures, napkins, museum tickets. All those things that otherwise get thrown out, but which can evoke memories.
8. Things I want to remember
An open list of details. A sound, a scent, or something else entirely. Write it down while it's still fresh.
9. A page with only one word
Choose a word that describes the day or place. Write it large, and let the rest of the page be decoration, drawing, colour, or something else entirely.
10. Reflection after the journey
How are you feeling now that you're home again? What have you learned, and what would you like to take forward with you?
