Washi tape is one of the easiest (and cosiest!) ways to make your pages more personal, decorative and functional. If you love using your journal, bullet journal or planner as a creative outlet, washi tape is an indispensable tool.

1. Framing with washi tape

Use washi tape to frame a whole page or a specific area. It provides a nice visual focus and is perfect for cover layouts, quotes, or important overviews. For example, you can frame a month title, a quote page, or a memory page with tape that matches the theme or season. It is an easy way to create cohesion in your layout and highlight the most important elements.

2. Partitioning with washi tape

If you want to create structure on your pages, washi tape is brilliant for dividing the layout. Use a strip of tape to separate days of the week, sections or to-do lists – either vertically or horizontally. It provides both an overview and aesthetic calm, and you can choose tape that matches your colour scheme. It works especially well on weekly planners and to-do lists.

3. Washi tape on the edge of dutch doors or tabs

Washi tape is also practical! Use it on the edge of your “dutch doors” (halved pages) or as tabs so you can quickly flick back and forth between pages. It makes it easy to navigate your journal – and it also looks super nice. You can use tape with patterns, motifs or colours that match the content of the page.

4. Insert pictures and memories with washi tape

Use washi tape to attach photos, tickets, receipts or other keepsakes. It works a bit like a type of decorative tape while also adding personality to your pages. Perfect for travel journals, scrapbooks or just when you want to save a special memory. And the bonus? You can easily remove or reposition it again without ruining the paper.

5. Decoration with washi tape

Sometimes it doesn't need to have a function – tape can just be pretty! Use it as decoration in the corners, along the edges or in combination with stickers and drawings. Try making small collages, underlining headings or creating balance in the layout. Washi tape is perfect for giving your journal a cosy and creative expression – without taking too long.
