Which pencil should I choose for sketching?

For sketching, we recommend soft pencils such as 2B, 4B or 6B, which produce dark and slightly grainy lines that are easy to blend.

Which pencil is best suited for bullet journaling?

HB gives fine and light lines that are easily erased and do not smudge on the paper.

What do the pencil hardness grades mean?

Most pencils, especially in Europe, follow a classical hardness system developed in the early 20th century. The system uses the letters H (hard), B (soft/black) and F (fine point) to indicate the grade of hardness. Here, “H” stands for “hard”, which produces light and sharp lines, while “B” stands for “black” and denotes a softer lead that creates darker and fuller strokes. A standard writing pencil has the designation HB, which is a middle ground between hard and soft. The more H's (e.g. HHH), the harder and lighter the pencil becomes, whereas more B's (such as BB or 4B) mean a softer lead and a blacker stroke. F stands for “fine point” and lies between H and HB. The hardness designations are also used for leads, so you can easily find the hardness that suits your needs, regardless of the pencil type.
