What is slow living?

Slow living isn't about doing everything slowly. It's about doing things with intention. Slowing down enough so that you can hear yourself. Enough to check in with your feelings. Enough to choose what actually matters to you.

It's not a recipe or a lifestyle to be followed to the letter. It's a reminder that everything doesn't have to go so fast. That breaks, peace and quiet, and small everyday pleasures also count.

Why slow living?

Many feel overwhelmed in a daily life full of deadlines, notifications and expectations. Slow living offers another path. Not as an escape, but as a place to land.

It can mean:

  • that you slow down the pace a bit

  • that you say no thanks to what drains you

  • that you cultivate mindfulness in small moments

  • that you cut down on screen time and social media.

What does slow living look like?

It looks different from person to person. For some, it's about moving to the countryside and baking sourdough bread. For others, it's about taking 15 minutes with a journal, a cup of tea and an open window to listen to the rain falling.

Slow living can be:

  • writing in your diary without goal or direction

  • colouring in a colouring book on the sofa in the evening

  • to sit quietly without answering the phone

  • choosing quality over quantity

  • doing one thing at a time.

Where does paper go?

Paper holds a special place in slow living. It is physical. It makes no noise. It does not distract with light and notifications. It waits for you. At your pace. And it can hold everything from thoughts to ideas, dreams and silence.

At Plan & Plot, we see slow living as:

Slow living is not perfect – it is personal

There are no rules. You are allowed to forget about it. You are allowed to do it half-heartedly. You are allowed to only feel like it once a month. The important thing is not to live slowly all the time. But to give yourself permission to do so when you need it, so that you don't burn out from the rush of everyday life.
